This guide explains the subject in a clear, comparable framework. Prices and conditions change over time; verify current sources before acting.

01

Separate spot gold from gram gold

A gold move can mean two different things in Türkiye. Spot gold is the global dollar price; gram gold combines that price with USD/TRY. Gram gold can rise while spot gold is flat if the exchange rate strengthens. Start by separating the metal effect from the currency effect.

02

Real yields and the dollar channel

Gold pays no interest. Rising inflation-adjusted bond yields can increase its opportunity cost, while falling real yields may do the opposite. A stronger dollar can also make gold more expensive outside the United States. These relationships vary in strength from day to day.

03

News or positioning?

Central-bank guidance, inflation and jobs data, geopolitical risk and official-sector buying can alter the fundamental story. Short-term jumps may also be amplified by futures positioning, options levels or thin liquidity. Compare the timing of the headline with the timing of the move.

04

A five-step daily check

Check spot gold, USD/TRY, US real yields, the dollar index and the day's major release in that order. Then add the bid-ask spread and timestamp. This narrows plausible explanations; it does not forecast the next price.
