The last trade is not a valuation of every coin

Bitcoin prices emerge where buy and sell orders meet. Platforms can quote different prices at the same time; depth and transfer conditions affect how quickly those differences close. A few large orders moving the price do not mean every coin traded at that level. Market capitalisation multiplies price by supply and does not measure the same amount of cash entering the market. This distinction matters when reading headlines about changes in market value.

02

Liquidity, leverage and news can overlap

A regulatory announcement or macro release can change the price buyers are willing to pay. The size of the move also depends on order-book depth and leveraged positions. Forced closures of undercollateralised positions may amplify selling, but cannot automatically explain every decline. Compare price, volume and, where available, liquidation data over the same window. A move following a headline does not prove that the headline caused the entire change.

Dollar and lira returns differ

Suppose Bitcoin falls 10% in dollars while USD/TRY rises 5%. Its gross lira change is 0.90 × 1.05 − 1 = −5.5%. A starting value of TRY100,000 becomes TRY94,500 before costs. The currency move reduces rather than removes the loss. Trading fees, spreads, network transfer costs and applicable taxes are excluded. Distinguish the return displayed in another currency from the net lira amount received.

04

Do not turn ETP flows into a standalone forecast

Exchange-traded product flows describe one channel of demand. Day boundaries, net versus gross measurement and product coverage matter. Positive net inflows can coexist with a falling price because other sellers, derivatives and intraday timing also matter. Spot exposure and futures exposure have different costs and tracking characteristics. Read the product’s market price, asset value and expenses alongside flows rather than treating the flow figure as a forecast.

05

How to investigate a price move

Fix the start time, end time, currency and price source. Check macro releases and verified company or platform announcements over that window. Inspect volume, liquidity and whether the move appears across venues or only one platform. Leave unexplained effects uncertain. This separates observation from interpretation. Custody and platform security remain separate issues: an accurate price view would not remove those risks.
