ECB Holds Deposit Rate at 2.50%: Policy Rates Are Not FX Quotes

The European Central Bank kept its deposit rate at 2.50% on October 29, 2026. Main refinancing remained at 2.65% and marginal lending at 2.90%. These policy rates do not establish a price or direction for the euro against the Turkish lira.

No change to the three rates

The deposit facility remains at 2.50%, main refinancing at 2.65% and marginal lending at 2.90%. The bank highlighted inflation and growth risks from energy costs while retaining its medium-term 2% inflation target.

No predetermined rate path

The next decisions will depend on incoming data and meeting-by-meeting assessment. The statement does not commit to a future interest-rate path.

Do not confuse a policy rate with a retail quote

A 2.50% policy rate is neither a bank’s euro selling price nor a promised return on a savings product. Retail comparisons require a quote timestamp, transaction direction and fees. This report does not measure an exchange-rate reaction or recommend a currency trade.
