Türkiye deposit rates at 44%: what TRY 100,000 earns net in 32 days

Alternatif Bank's VOV Account and Fibabanka's Kiraz Account advertised welcome rates of up to 44% on September 9, 2026. Because TRY 20,000 of a TRY 100,000 balance remains non-interest-bearing on both products, the comparable 32-day net interest is about TRY 2,545.

Three rates that stand out

  1. Highest published rate: Alternatif Bank VOV and Fibabanka Fonlu Kiraz advertise up to 44% gross for eligible customers.
  2. Balance effect: TRY 20,000 of a TRY 100,000 balance earns no interest on both products, leaving TRY 80,000 as the interest-bearing amount.
  3. Tax and conditions: 17.5% withholding reduces 44% gross to a 36.30% simple net annual rate; Fibabanka's extra two points require a TRY 50,000 fund balance.

FACT · What is the current deposit rate?

As of September 9, 2026, Alternatif Bank published a 44% introductory rate and a 34% standard rate for VOV balances between TRY 20,000 and TRY 250,000. Fibabanka advertised a 42% welcome rate on TL Kiraz and up to 44% when the two-point Fonlu Kiraz condition is met. These are conditional annual gross product rates, not a guaranteed market-wide average available to every customer.

DATA · Why does 44% not apply to all TRY 100,000?

Both banks' official tables leave TRY 20,000 without interest in the TRY 100,000–249,999 balance tier. Only TRY 80,000 therefore earns interest. Applying 44% to the full amount would show TRY 3,182.47 of net interest over 32 days, while the product-consistent calculation gives TRY 2,545.97. The TRY 636.49 gap is the cost of the non-interest-bearing balance.

DATA · How withholding changes the net rate

Fibabanka's current calculator multiplies gross interest by 0.825, reflecting 17.5% withholding. A 44% annual gross rate therefore becomes a 36.30% simple net annual rate, while 42% gross becomes 34.65% net. Those net rates apply to the TRY 80,000 interest-bearing balance, not the full TRY 100,000 account value.

INTERPRETATION · What does the seven-point spread over policy say?

The CBRT kept its one-week repo rate at 37% on July 23, 2026. A 44% welcome rate sits seven percentage points above policy, signaling competition for new customers and liquid deposits rather than a permanent deposit-market average. VOV's introductory period is 45 days and Kiraz's is 60 days for qualifying new accounts; standard pricing or additional conditions apply afterwards.

SCENARIO · The real comparison on TRY 100,000

When the 44% introductory VOV rate and the 44% total Fonlu Kiraz rate apply, the TRY 20,000 non-interest balance leaves both products with about TRY 2,545.97 of simple net interest over 32 days. Fibabanka's base 42% Kiraz rate produces about TRY 2,430.25. Because the TRY 50,000 fund condition for Fonlu Kiraz carries separate fees and price risk, the additional TRY 115.73 of deposit interest should not determine the overall product decision by itself.

EXPERT VIEW · What to watch next

The CBRT's September 10 decision and banks' subsequent standard-rate updates will be the key short-term signals; a promotional welcome rate should not be assumed to persist. Consumers should compare the interest-bearing balance, campaign period, withholding and any linked-product cost for the same amount and number of days, rather than choose on the headline percentage alone.

Decision checklist

Confirm the customer-specific rate in the bank's mobile or internet channel before applying, and check the non-interest balance, welcome period and post-campaign standard rate. If a fund, card or other product is required, assess its cost and risk separately from deposit interest. The figures are informational scenarios, not investment advice.
