Three critical developments

  1. Petrol Ofisi’s September 15 VAT-inclusive reference shows diesel at TRY 95.60/L on Istanbul’s European side, TRY 96.75 in Ankara and TRY 97.02 in Izmir.
  2. The comparable Istanbul European-side value was TRY 88.89/L on September 7, making the eight-day same-source difference TRY 6.71/L, or about 7.55%.
  3. At 7 L/100 km, diesel costs TRY 669.20 per 100 km and TRY 6,692 per 1,000 km; a theoretical 50-liter fill costs TRY 4,780.

The matrix uses Istanbul European-side diesel at TRY 95.60/L including VAT. The last column compares the September 7 same-source value of TRY 88.89/L.

QUICK ANSWER · How much is diesel today?

On September 15, 2026, Petrol Ofisi’s VAT-inclusive recommended reference is TRY 95.60/L for Istanbul’s European side, TRY 95.46 for the Asian side, TRY 96.75 for Ankara and TRY 97.02 for Izmir. These are city references from one distributor; under EPDK’s definitions, an individual station’s actual pump price can differ. The price board at the station controls the purchase.

What changed from September 7?

The same Petrol Ofisi source showed TRY 88.89/L for Istanbul’s European side on September 7 and TRY 95.60/L on September 15. The eight-day difference is TRY 6.71/L, a simple increase of about 7.55%. This is the total difference between two verified dates, not a claim about one overnight increase or a universal price at every station.

What do 100 km and one tank cost?

At TRY 95.60/L and an assumed 7 L/100 km, 100 km costs TRY 669.20, 500 km TRY 3,346 and 1,000 km TRY 6,692. A theoretical 50-liter fill costs TRY 4,780. At the September 7 reference, the same tank would have cost TRY 4,444.50, a difference of TRY 335.50. Calculations use VAT-inclusive reference prices; no withholding tax or financing cost applies.

Diesel versus gasoline at equal consumption

On Istanbul’s European side, the gasoline reference is TRY 80.26/L and diesel TRY 95.60/L, a TRY 15.34 gap. In a purely mathematical example where both vehicles use 7 L/100 km, gasoline costs TRY 561.82 per 100 km and diesel TRY 669.20, a TRY 107.38 difference. Real diesel and gasoline vehicles differ in consumption, purchase price, maintenance, tax and use profile, so the liter price alone cannot answer which car is cheaper.

Household and fleet budgets

A vehicle driven 1,000 km a month at 7 L/100 km has a theoretical monthly diesel cost of TRY 6,692, versus TRY 6,222.30 at the September 7 same-source price. A hypothetical ten-vehicle fleet, each driven 3,000 km a month at 8 L/100 km, uses 2,400 liters: TRY 229,440 now versus TRY 213,336 on the earlier reference, a TRY 16,104 difference. Tolls, maintenance, financing and empty running are excluded.

Ankara, Izmir and selected cities

Petrol Ofisi’s September 15 VAT-inclusive diesel references are TRY 96.75/L in Ankara, TRY 97.02 in Izmir, TRY 96.79 in Eskisehir, TRY 97.34 in Balikesir, TRY 97.37 in Canakkale and TRY 98.43 in Sirnak. At equal distance and consumption, city-level cost differences move directly with the liter-price gap. This is not a cheapest-station ranking or a national average.

METHOD AND LIMITATIONS · Which price and calculation?

This analysis uses the first VAT-inclusive gasoline and diesel values in Petrol Ofisi’s list accessed September 15. Petrol Ofisi describes them as recommended pump prices; EPDK says actual pump prices come from station automation while ceiling or recommended prices come from distributor declarations. The September 7 figure is a snapshot verified with the same method. The date-to-date gap does not claim causation, timing or price components. For an exact trip cost, enter your receipt price and real vehicle consumption in the calculator.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR MY MONEY, BUSINESS OR PORTFOLIO?

Households can multiply actual monthly kilometers by measured consumption and hold a separate fuel buffer. Businesses should track liters and kilometers rather than only cost per vehicle, separating fuel from total logistics cost before repricing contracts. For transport, logistics, airline or refining exposures, the impact depends on hedges, FX, tax, product margins and pass-through power. One pump price cannot predict a stock’s direction; this is not investment advice.
