What was released?

The index fell from 91.9 to 84.8, a published monthly decline of 7.7%. This measures household assessments and expectations, not inflation or actual spending.

Points are not percentages

The two displayed index levels differ by 7.1 points. The relative percentage change is a different calculation. Neither should be applied directly to a family’s income.

A practical budget check

Compare a purchase’s cash price with total instalment payments. Allow for essential bills, existing repayments and unexpected costs before focusing on the monthly instalment alone. The survey is not a personal income forecast or investment recommendation.
